By now I’m sure most of you are well aware of Facebook’s ‘promoted post’ feature which was launched mid 2012, but for anyone scratching their head let me brief you quickly before we jump in any further. For any page with over 400 Likes Facebook has introduced an advertising option allowing you to promote any one of your posts – in order to ‘override’ Edgerank and increase the reach of the post from the average 2-7% of your fans it would typically reach.
While this was a generally well received and useful addition to the Facebook platform, the one thing that promoted posts did highlight to users is the fact that the reach of their posts was being intentionally limited by Facebook – something that was not common knowledge at the time. But I am not looking to spend the entirety of this blog talking about Edgerank, so let’s keep moving and explore promoted posts a little further.
